BUSINESS:
1. Introduction:
Father Hogan
introduced two of the four new council members:
Mary Hehli and Karen Wirtanen.
The other two new members are Jeff Sauter and Veronica Sigurdson. Four members of the council have their terms
ending and some of them may decide to stay on the council. They will report to Father as to what they
would like to do. Father wants all
parishioners that want to serve on the council to serve. No elections.
2. Education Committee:
a. Sister was not able to attend the meeting. Elaine read the report that Sister submitted.
b.
3. Sacred Worship (Liturgy) Committee:
a. This committee has not met and Father is going to schedule a meeting
for Monday, February 16 at 7:00 PM in the library.
b. The Liturgy Committee will help set up the Soup/Sandwich Supper on
Sundays during Lent. We will be looking
to volunteer groups in the parish to take a Sunday. Claire expressed concern that it is always
the same people that set up and work these suppers as do all the other tasks
around the parish. It would be good to
get new groups to help with these suppers during Lent.
c. The groups that can help with the suppers have been: PCCW, Confirmation students, Knights of
Columbus, Choirs.
4. Buildings and Grounds:
a. Greg handed out the report on the drain tile and repairing around the
outside of the church. Cost of the
project was about $16,000. Tasks left to
do with this project are a little landscaping and put in a few more shrubs.
b. Market & Johnson put the sidewalk back in at their cost
($6,000-$10,000)
c. The total of this project was only about half of the original bid. This is thanks to some of our own
parishioners, especially help from Clarence.
d. More projects to be brought to the Buildings and Grounds Committee
include the parking lot and other projects currently under maintenance.
5. Social Concerns:
a. Larry reported that the Knights of Columbus will have their first Fish
Fry on February 27.
b. They had a Pancake Breakfast on January 18 and it was well
attended. The egg bake went over very
well at the breakfast.
c. First Degree will be held on Sunday night. There are two new members.
d. Posters will be ready and out soon for the upcoming Fish Frys.
e. The KC Convention is coming up soon.
f. Clarence mentioned that he can add something to the panel on the
billboard by the interstate if anyone wants something advertised there.
g. PCCW members will be asking for and packaging cookies for the
Seminarians on February 8.
h. Registration for an upcoming Conference is in the bulletin
i. PCCW Minutes are attached to these minutes
j. Election of officers is coming up this spring and they are seeking
nominations for President and Secretary
k. Father said he would like to take some of our parishioners on a pilgrimage
to Rudolph if anyone would like to go.
l. Nan Falbo is heading up an effort for parishioners to sign up for
bringing a meal to Father and sitting down and enjoying that meal with
Father. This is going over very
well. Signup sheets will be put in the
back of church. This will be continued
through February and March.
6. Pastor’s Report:
a. Father did not bring the financial report to this meeting. He will bring the report to the next meeting.
7. Other Business:
a. Larry asked if we could see more detail in the financial report. Greg and Father will talk to Joan and see a
report can be generated for the council.
b. The Finance Council will meet in February. The current debt is under $1.7 Million.
c. Clarence mentioned that the bulbs are out and the sockets are bad on
the star out on the hill by the side of
the church. It was expressed that folks
like this star and it needs to be repaired or replaced.
d. Primary Election will be held on February 17. The township uses St. Raymond parish hall as
their voting facility.
e. Carl has been adding sand to the barrels.
f. A Mardi Gras is going to be planned for 2010. It was mentioned that this has been somewhat
of a successful fundraiser for the parish.
If we have a committee to set it up and plan it, we will have it next
year.
g. The Fall Festival Committee is still looking for someone to chair the
committee. The Festival is scheduled for
the second weekend in September 2009.
h. Evening with the Clergy is such a great event. This year was no exception. It was well attended and a report of the
money raised will be brought to the next meeting.
i. It was again brought up about holding wedding receptions in the parish
hall. Ron brought forms for Father and
Elaine to use now if someone wants to rent the hall. They must sign the forms and submit to the
diocese with proof of insurance at least 3 weeks before the reception. This will eliminate the parish being held
responsible for accidents, etc.
j. Father is still working on a policy for weddings in the parish.
k. The council wanted to see a Budget for St. Raymond for the upcoming
year. The Finance Council has not met
and does not have a budget in place.
l. It was asked if each committee in the parish sets up a budget for their
events. No budget has been set up for
the committees.
m. Someone mentioned that the vacuum cleaner used to clean the church does
not do a good job so they are bringing in their own from home. But Karen said she used it when she cleaned
the church and it worked fine. Clarence
will check into why the vacuum cleaner is not working properly.
8. Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
9. Next Meeting: February 23, 2009
at 7:00 PM in the library.
