St. Raymond Parish Council

August 24, 2009 –7:00 PM

 

1.     The meeting was called to order by Fr. Jack at 7:05 PM.   Father led us in a prayer.

2.     Members present:  Deacon Larry Agema, Clarence Hazen, Mary Hehli, Larry Julson, Jane Mueller, Claire Parr, Veronica Sigurdson, Ron Smith, Elaine Welin, Karen Wirtenan and Fr. Hogan.   Absent:  Sr. Marjorie Hill, Greg LeGare, Jeff Sauter

3.     Minutes from April 24, 2009 were distributed.  No changes were presented.

 

BUSINESS

1.     Education Committee:  

a.     This summer we received a B.E.E.T. (Bishop’s Education Endowment Trust) Grant for about $195 to assist us in the purchase of sacramental and biblical DVD’s.

b.    We will hold registration for K-10, beginning next Sunday, August 30 and the following Sundays.  Classes for K-8 will begin Sunday, September 20 and classes for Grades 9 & 10 will begin Wednesday, October 7.  We still are in need of one teacher for the elementary program.

2.     Sacred Worship (Liturgy) Committee:   

a.     There is a great resurgence of music ministry

b.    Robbie has such good ideas and enthusiasm

c.      Trumpets were just a little bit loud

d.    A thank you should go into the bulletin when we get the names of the harpist, and others playing at Mass.

e.      Not many attended the Mass on the Assumption.

f.      Sacred Worship will meet later in September.

g.     New Server applications should go with the CCD registration forms.  Jane will get them to Elaine to print out and get to Sister Marjorie.

h.    Stewardship Sunday will be held on September 27.  Parishioners will fill out forms at the end of each Mass and turn in the forms.  These forms will be used for church census as well.

3.     Buildings and Grounds:  

a.     Clarence said the fillers for the cracks in the blacktop and fill for where the water drains will be taken care of yet this fall probably before the Fall Festival.

b.    Patch filling will be done in a week or so.

c.      Chip sealing will be done next summer.

d.    Restriping will be done this fall yet.

e.      Landscaping needs more to be done yet.  Some areas need to be reseeded.

f.      Windows at the rectory need to be replaced and the window sills scraped and painted.

g.     Water problem in the basement at the rectory

h.    Eave troughs were draining improperly.

i.       Window well—the water runs into it.

j.       Windows will be delivered on August 25.

k.    Gene Pulvermacher did the scraping and the priming and that is all done and a thank you to Gene for his work on this project.

l.       The work day to remove brush down by the cemetery.

m.  A brush cutter will clean up the ditches.  Greg LeGare will take care of this.

n.    The ditch is too steep to mow, but the brush and trees will be cut.

4.     Social Concerns: 

a.     Knights of Columbus will have a Pancake Breakfast on August 30.  They will try potato pancakes and egg bake along with the pancakes.

b.    The KC’s will have a Fish Fry on October 9.  Beginning time of the Fish Fry has been changed to 4:00 PM.

c.      The KC’s plan to sell rosettes again this Christmas season.

d.    The KC’s will have a Pancake Feed in January.

e.      The Fish Fry suppers will be held every Friday evening during Lent except Good Friday.  It was too confusing not to have it every Friday.

f.      The next meeting will be held at Jeni Geiserts home and will be a potluck supper.

g.     The Deanery meeting will be held on October 5 at St. Pat’s.

h.    New Officers:  Donna Kuhnen is the PCCW President and Polly Cox is the PCCW Secretary.

i.       The PCCW plans an activity for each month.  October is the Month of Mary.

j.       November is the Dessert Month.

5.     Pastor’s Report: 

a.     Father handed out the financial report from Joan.

b.    Father will be sending out a thank you letter to parishioners thanking them for and showing appreciation for Investing in Faith.

c.      CCD classes will start on September 20.

d.    Stewardship Sunday will be held on September 27. 

e.      The Time & Talent Forms will be handed out on September 27.

f.      There will be a pledge card printed up and stapled to the form.

g.     Jane has done the scheduling for September, October and November. 

h.    She will do more scheduling when the Time & Talent Forms have been turned in.

i.       What’s the Buzz?

                                                             i.      Music was too loud when we had the trumpet players

                                                           ii.      First Annual Choir Picnic went well.

6.     Other Business: 

a.     None.

7.     Meeting adjourned at 8:02 PM.

8.     Next Meeting:  Tuesday, September 22 at 7:00 PM in the library.  (This is a change as Father is so often out of town on Mondays and cannot make it back in time for our meetings.)
