FROM THE PASTOR:  In today’s gospel, Jesus is led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted.  Each temptation put to him by the devil involved some misguided personal gain, such as seeking easy solutions to human hungers, pursuing power and glory and defying death.  By resisting these temptations, Jesus shows us that our true gain is found not in satisfying ourselves but in something better, complete fidelity to God.  This choice faces us, like Jesus, to be who we are meant to be, persons “led by the Spirit.”

           Excerpts from Living Liturgy

God bless you always!  Fr. Jack

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION:

We are called to worship in community at Sunday and daily Mass.  We are also called to build an individual relationship with Jesus our Savior.  Here at St. Raymond’s we have a special opportunity to spend one-on-one time with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament at Eucharistic Adoration.  Bring Him whatever is in your heart.  Pray, read the Bible or just sit quietly in His presence.  This is one more opportunity to experience our Lord through the richness of our Catholic tradition.  Consider coming on Thursdays any time between 5 and 10:00 PM.  Confessions are available from 7-8 pm as well.   Want to commit an hour regularly?  Want to learn more about Eucharistic Adoration? Call Nan at 878-4767. Hourly adorers wanted especially at 7 and 8 PM.

PRAYER CHAIN

Our Prayer Chain consists of two strands, the Computer Chain and the Call Chains.  Elaine Welin (ewelin@cvol.net) manages the Computer Chain, while Diane Walker (286-5171) starts the prayer requests on three Call Chains.  Please let us know your special prayer requests.

ADULT FAITH SHARING:

Lent is a time to spend extra time getting to know our LORD.  The La Crosse Diocese has a Faith Alive Program that has been successfully helping Christians do just that for the past 2 years.  You now have the opportunity to study “Who is My Neighbor? And other Encounters with the Lord” on Sundays during Lent at St. Raymond’s parish.  Meetings will be held between Masses in the library (9:10-10:15).  Child care is provided in the playroom.  This 6-week program should be quite interesting.  Even if you aren’t able to attend every session, please come when you are able.  Books are $5 if you want your own copy or you may borrow one for the session.  Bring a friend. Call Nan at 878-4767 with questions.

Library Corner

During your Lenten journey consider checking out two books by Henri Nouwen.  The first book is The Return of the Prodigal Son, A Story of Homecoming (P-S).  Nouwen tells of his personal encounter with Rembrandt’s painting, The Return of the Prodigal Son, and it’s affect on his life.  This is a tale of a journey through life’s struggles, to reconciliation and transformation.  The second book Walk with Jesus-Stations of the Cross (P-S) is a contemporary way of the cross.

 Mabel Breid, Parish Librarian
